EFRA EC 2009 admin, Wednesday 21 January 2009 - 14:55:28 // comment: 0 Hello Everyone, not many days before the 2009 Euros now. Perhaps we could offer some suggestions as well as information? Please remember the track and camping area are closed until 12:30pm Saturday morning. Please do NOT arrive before then. On the subject of driving also remember we drive on the left and priority is from the right. Some of you may think we drive on the incorrect side when actually until Napoleon, everyone rode on the left leaving their sword arm free in case of attack. It is amazing but nearly half the world still drive on the left. Joking aside, please be careful. We do not want anyone to spoil their enjoyment of the event on their way to or from us so 100% concentration. If you are camping then just inside the entrance you will see a plan of the camping area and a list of the reserved places with (if you have pre-booked) your name on the list against the plot you asked for. On the camping area a stake with the plot number and your name will also be there. Please remember to leave at least 5 meters between plots. We have promised the Fire Service that room will be left to prevent spread of fire and also room to allow any Ambulance to get to anyone urgently needing attention. If you are asked to adjust your plot please do so in good and friendly way. We are not being heavy handed just obeying the law and the emergency services and it is your interests as well. The track is very near to the seaside and all those of you who may live near to the sea will know that the coast cools down a lot quicker at night time than further inland. We suggest you bring something warm such as a fleece to wear during the evening. This nicely brings us onto the weather. A great many of you think it rains exclusively in the UK and nowhere else and that we all walk round with fold-up umbrellas in our back pockets! Nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, we are an island and as such enjoy a maritime climate. Unlike a continental one (Europe) where a weather system can stick for many weeks, ours can change quickly as we are under the effects of the warm Gulf Stream, Atlantic weather systems and the high Jet Stream. Last year we had a very poor summer due to the Jet Stream not moving far enough north. However, unlike the Euros we had at Luxembourg a few years ago when we had wall to wall sunshine, last year when we were there it was cold for that time of year and we were hit by tremendous storms. Again this was due to the Jet Stream effect. How about the wet and windy Worlds in Switzerland in 2005? This just illustrates how our weather systems are not doing as we expect. Already this year the UK has enjoyed hot weather which was sometimes hotter than the Med! So, whilst we cannot guarantee hot warm weather on the other hand we may get it. Who knows? The weather forecasters certainly don’t so just to be on the safe side bring waterproof clothing in case it does rain. Registration will open on Sunday so to save time if you are already there please come along, collect your Pilot’s envelope, let us take your photo and issue you with a photo pass and your mechanic passes. We will also require you to bring your Transmitter, not only to confirm frequencies but to place your unique number on it. Others like to see what engine, car, tyres and servos you use so also have this with you. We will also give you the free ticket each Pilot is entitled to for the Bar-B-Q and entertainment after the opening ceremony. The Opening we will leave a little flexible and choose which of the two days, Thursday or Friday is best weather wise and we will do this nearer the time. There cannot be any of you that do not realise all our economies are in deep trouble. Some Countries more than others. This will be the first major Large Scale event run in a recession and it has taken some doing to get us to this stage. We must publically thank Large Scale’s perennial sponsors HOBBYTHEK of Germany who are well known to all of you. Our second major sponsor was CONTRAST of Spain and we gratefully thank both of them for their very generous donation. Other Sponsors were Mielke Pipes, Rapid Racing UK, Contrast UK (Red Line Racing), Eurotunnel and we must not forget the help and input from the Large Scale Club that race at Brookland. ALL major events need sponsors as you cannot run one, hire equipment pay for officals and so on without them. As for Officials we have brought to this event what we consider to be the best. We have the top referee in the world Dallas Mathieson who is well known to Large Scale racers. Our own BRCA President is Race Director and brings international experience to the event. We have RCM software running the event and the author of that tried and trusted software Jackie Aebi and Ernesto Camponavo from Lostallo will be running race control. For continuity Wolfgang Petermann will once again be the Technical Inspector. Many on the BRCA Executive Committee will also be helping the Large Scale Section at the event and we thank everyone for their help and input. Unlike previous major events where the club ran the event, we are having to hire the track and from a separate landlord, hire the camping area. For the camping side we are hiring a shower block, a multiple toilet block and a generator. Once we know how many are actually camping we can then fix the camping fee so we manage to factor in the items we have hired for your use and comfort. In the pits please be aware that race control will run on the same electrical system so NO Kettles, coffee machines or microwaves please. We are sure there will not be any one of you wishing to be responsible for switching on a high current drain and thus blowing the electric and shutting down the racing? No thought not, so none of the above items on your pit area please. WiFi is throughout and if you bring your laptop you can have your own personal race results direct to your pit bench. There is Broadband at the track but Please, please, PLEASE do not use it during racing. The hour at lunchtime or after racing finishes is the time to upload your pictures and so on. Race Control need this broadband line to be working freely for race results to be uploaded all the time during racing. Smoking. Yes some of you do so we have put aside a covered area for you to do so. Please use it and NOT any other areas. The UK has a strict ‘no smoking in public places’ policy and this includes the pits. The local Government have told us they will make spot checks and anyone caught smoking other than in that designated area can risk an on the spot fine of £60 UK Pounds (approx €70). We could also be fined up to £1000 and if we do the offender will be expected to pay our fine as well! That’s it for now. I have played with a lot of differant CMS systems, and i think this is the best one for us to use on the net. Now i will give all the credit for this CMS system to Gary Dawson (gaz) who came up with the idea of using the e107 CMS system so a big thanks you from me to you. I will be trying differant themes so keep coming back and let me know what you think of them all.
